As someone who gets to waffle with you IRL, I am excited to listen in. That is how GOOD Christina's waffling is, people. It ain't some yarned out story, when she waffles she says little nuggets of truth that suddenly light up your soul. Seriously, her waffle is golden *here endeth my endorsement*
Christina, I love the honesty and energy you bring to this post! Balancing heavy, meaningful content with lighter, joyful moments is such a relatable struggle. So many creators fall into the trap of becoming “branded” by only one part of themselves, especially when that part is about wrestling with life’s tougher questions. It’s refreshing to see you intentionally carving out space for joy, creativity, and simplicity—it shows that your connection with readers goes beyond just one theme and invites us into a fuller picture of who you are.
I also appreciate your openness about the business side of Substack and the balance between creating value and needing support. Being transparent about this reminds people that creative work, when taken seriously, is real work, and it’s okay to ask for the kind of support that allows it to grow sustainably.
One thing I wondered about was how you see this shift toward lighter content evolving alongside the more serious themes of The Battle Cry. It might be interesting for readers if you explore how these two sides—joy and sorrow, simplicity and depth—can enrich each other rather than live in separate silos. It could add another layer of value to your work and help readers see that these aspects are intertwined rather than at odds.
Anyway, I’m excited to see where you take The Waffler! Your work is inspiring and has a personal warmth that really shines through. Wishing you blessings and all the energy you need for what you’ve planned!
Lane, I'm blown away by the thoughtfulness and time you've taken with this comment after only just finding me here! I've been feeling the endorphins dip after launching my first episode yesterday, and I can't tell you how encouraging your words have been.
It's refreshing to hear that someone appreciated my openness on the business side of things because I was a little antsy about being this transparent. I lost 10 subscribers overnight after releasing this post, which is the most I've ever taken in one hit. It's made me all the more like "should I have talked about this?" But also, I don't see the point in hiding it! It's the reality, and pretending like it isn't doesn't help anyone – what's more, it makes it look like entrepreneurship as a creative is somehow something to be ashamed of (and I don't think for one second that it is).
And I completely agree with you about letting these two sides (joy/sorrow, simplicity/depth) interact with each other. This is something I'm literally working on in just my general, day-to-day life and thoughts, so hopefully as I figure it out, my content will reflect it alongside me. Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this, and thank you for being here! :)
Oh my goodness listening to your message was even more powerful. God is using you mightily! Love you
Ahhh Gina you're such a sweetheart! Thank you!!!

You've made me turn beet red.
