Christina, what a great article. Thank you. I appreciate the way you presented the material and the below quote really resonates with me. As a dad of three girls, I try to teach them the truth of Scripture, not a tired played out assumption.

“The first sin was doubting God’s love for us – choosing to trust our own desires and wisdom over the wisdom of the One who created us.”

Yessss friend, thank you!! 🙌🏼❤️‍🔥🙏🏼 Been reading a fair bit of dodgy biblical exegesis on the "significance" of Eve being the one the serpent addresses, and trying to unpick the truth from the lies... So many lies on all sides. Needed to read this today.

Yup. Booooy do I get that. It's so problematic when we interpret Scripture through the modern "death of the author" approach, assuming that our modern tropes can be applied to Scripture rather than allowing Scripture to be applied to our understanding. Any time I question the Bible's injustice against women, I think of Jesus on the cross, and my argument falls down. Love you, friend. May the peace of Christ which surpasses all understanding guard your heart and mind. <3

This song saddens me on so many levels. I appreciate your thorough perspective on this and reminding us that despite what culture says, we have a God who is for our greatest good ❤️

Thanks Christina. As a man who grew up in the Evangelical church, I've been discouraged lately about the great falling away I see around me. The church scandals of the past several years (almost entirely involving men and SA) have made me feel so angry and helpless most of the time. I'm no feminist but there is something such as basic human character that should be practiced AT LEAST by Christians who claim they are somehow biblical followers of Christ.

Then in a Reddit forum about some of the music I like, the discussion was centered around a song called "Eve, Psyche and Bluebeard's Wife". Eve was characterized as someone who "challenged authority" (the patriarchal God of course) and was punished for her genuine desire to be her own woman for wanting to "expand her knowledge" I guess. No mention of how Adam, the man, did the same thing as Eve except he wasn't deceived, so if anything it's a story about how both male and female fail to trust God, even though God was right (as the history of the world has borne out.)

Human behavior was never morally superior to God, even though that's the original lie that we can't seem to get past: Ye shall be your own god. So your writing hit home.

I appreciate this Substack and your willingness to have honest discussions.

Tremendous witness, Christina, of the proverbial "elephant in the room", written, as others have commented, with both style and grace.

Your anger is righteous anger. I'm sorry you were misled by the very ones who were to be trustworthy for the care and instruction of your generation.

I am happy that you see things more clearly now. Keep going. Keep digging into the truths of life, the truths of love, the truths of God our Father's loving care for us, the truths of Jesus' sacrifice for us and His examples of living here as a cherished child of God.

Blessings ✨️🙏🎊✨️

"There is rest for the wicked" is just wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. I've been thinking and praying through the story of Adam and Eve and the serpent and the apple, too. What a journey.
